Frequently Asked Questions
1. Is a Newsletter included in my membership?
Yes, “The Exchange” bimonthly newsletter produced by STAA is available to all members either by online access or printed copy, dependant on membership type.
2. How can I place an ad in the Newsletter?
Simply send a message to the editor with the details of the advertisement. Be sure to include your membership number and details of how respondents can contact you.
3. Can I get back copies of AHTS Newsletters?
For hard copy of the concluded AHTS news or STAA “The Exchange” to which some copies are at hand, simply send a message to the membership secretary with your name, membership number (you must be a current member) and return address, along with the details of the issues required. You will need to cover the postage costs. All newsletters will eventually be available online in the members area of the website.
4. Who can attend the AHTS meetings?
AHTS meetings are open to any interested persons. Note however, that only AHTS members can bid at the regular equipment auctions.
5. What do you do at member meetings?
Member meetings are informal meetings. They are an opportunity to meet like-minded people. Some nights there are buying opportunities where members offer items for private sale. Other nights there might be an auction of telephone and related items. Invited guest speakers regularly present on a variety of subjects related to refurbishing antique equipment. Members also display specialized equipment that others may find interesting. Of course for any question you always wanted answered, or for any item of equipment you wanted identified, you will likely find a member who can supply an answer or lead you towards one. The overall intent is that you go home looking forward to the next meeting.
6. Can I bring guests to AHTS functions?
Yes. All AHTS events are open to any interested persons.
7. How can I pay for my subscription?
After completing the online membership application, the membership secretary will contact you with the details for EFT payment. Cheques will be received if used via our PO Box address.
8. Can I join over the phone, fax or online?
It is not possible to join over the phone,or by fax. After an application is received via the online application process on the website, then EFT details are advised We do not expose our banking details to non-members.
9. What is the term of my membership?
The term of a membership is always until the end of the current financial year (ending midnight on June 30).
10. What grades of membership are there?
There are four grades of membership:
1. Member,
under two categories
· An online member has access to the newsletter via the website.
· A normal member has the same online newsletter access plus a hard copy delivered by mail.
2. Life Member
This grade of membership is bestowed by the committee in exceptional cases.
3. Honorary Member
This grade of membership is bestowed by the committee in exceptional cases. For example, to the spouse of a life member that has passed away.
4. Reciprocal Member
This grade of membership is typically reserved for other communications and related societies, and provides a means for distributing our newsletter to them.
